Bill of Rights for Children of Incarcerated Parents

Hello all,

Logistics:
-I've posted the mini-digests in blog form: http://childrenofincarcerated.blogspot.com/. Posts with resources/links in them are hopefully labeled clearly.

-For those of you with start-up programs, the DropBox is being updated; let me know if you're having trouble with it.

-From now through July 31 I'll be on a 20 hour a week schedule (usually most of Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday). I'll try to respond to emails and phone calls as soon as possible, but know that I might not get back to you right away and plan ahead if you'll need something from me.

Reminder:
Monthly Reports Due June 5th

Reflection:
Looking back at the digests as I was posting them online, I realized I haven't directly shared this link with you: http://www.fcnetwork.org/Bill%20of%20Rights/billofrights.pdf
I have this Bill of Rights posted above my desk to remind me what we are working towards. Although we can't as individuals, or even as an organization, ensure all of these rights, we are - you are - helping to care for, support, and not judge or blame children and families affected by incarceration as well as many other children and families in need of similar support.

Thanks for all your great work. I'm looking forward to reading your May reflections next week.

Have a great weekend,

Welcome

Across the country, we see the effects incarceration has on families, and especially on children.

This blog was created as a discussion forum for AmeriCorps Members working on mentoring programs for children of incarcerated parents across the country.

It is so valuable to hear about the similarities and differences, successes and challenges, and inspirations and frustrations we have encountered serving children, families, and mentors.

I hope this blog will connect us by providing a space for discussion, questions and answers, and inspiration as we work with a common mission in different programs in different places.
