Highlights and October Goals

Not too much to report from my office -

Monthly reports highlighted:
-great advice from other nda sites - connecting with different organizations - meeting mentees - finding mentors for these mentees - setting up orientations - pieces falling into place - difficult start-up - navigating unexpected staff situations - feeling like things are going slowly - helping parents enroll children in the program - seeing youth who have life experiences beyond their years -

Fabian in LA translated some of the fliers into Spanish - I'll forward them along to any of you who think they'd be useful in your community; let me know.

October Goals:
-Have a total of 5 matches by the end of the month!
-Organize a mentor training or other mentor/mentee activity
-Call any established matches at least twice this month.

You all are doing great work! Thanks so much for your commitment.
Keep it up!
Take care,

Welcome

Across the country, we see the effects incarceration has on families, and especially on children.

This blog was created as a discussion forum for AmeriCorps Members working on mentoring programs for children of incarcerated parents across the country.

It is so valuable to hear about the similarities and differences, successes and challenges, and inspirations and frustrations we have encountered serving children, families, and mentors.

I hope this blog will connect us by providing a space for discussion, questions and answers, and inspiration as we work with a common mission in different programs in different places.
