Screening and Matches!

Sorry for the belated digest (I know you all cried since you didn't get it yesterday ).
I was home sick Wednesday and Thursday, and I took yesterday off for good measure.

The Business:

October Monthly Report is up!
Please submit it (or mail it) by Monday November 2nd.

Attached is a mentor file checklist that we've used here in Baltimore, maybe it will be helpful to you.

Updates from around the country:
Apopka - mentors in screening process
Baltimore - 3 matches made this month; churches sponsoring Christmas gifts for 9 mentee families.
Boulder - 3 mentees looking for mentors; one will be mentored by a former NDMVA member
Chicago - Mentor Training TODAY!!!
Cincinnati - in pursuit of partnerships
Dayton - lots of connections for mentors and mentees made
New Orleans - 2 matches made
Los Angeles - finalizing mentee paperwork for first mentees

Let me know what else I should update the group on (or what I've gotten wrong here).

I will be out of town from Monday October 26 - Monday November 2 visiting our sites in Alabama and New Orleans.
During this time, I'll check email and voicemail sporadically.
Expect to hear back from me after November 3rd.

Looking forward to getting those monthly reports.

Take care,
Ursula

ps- start getting excited about January: National Mentoring Month. January 21st is "Thank Your Mentor Day"
I know this is a little in the future, but see if you can connect to any of your local mentoring partnerships.
Let us know what you are planning during January to thank your Mentors, Mentees, and Parents/Guardians/Families.

Welcome

Across the country, we see the effects incarceration has on families, and especially on children.

This blog was created as a discussion forum for AmeriCorps Members working on mentoring programs for children of incarcerated parents across the country.

It is so valuable to hear about the similarities and differences, successes and challenges, and inspirations and frustrations we have encountered serving children, families, and mentors.

I hope this blog will connect us by providing a space for discussion, questions and answers, and inspiration as we work with a common mission in different programs in different places.
