Men in Mentoring and Prison Creative Arts Project

I hope you all are doing well!

Below is interested about a training, a book, background checks, and my upcoming travel.

Recruiting male mentors is one of the toughest challenges that mentoring programs face. Join us on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 from 1:00 – 2:30 pm, EST to learn more about Mentor Michigan's Men in Mentoring Toolkit. The webinar will discuss the steps to take to recruit men in a variety of settings and will highlight different strategies to use when recruiting men from various settings.

Spaces for this webinar are limited—register today to reserve your space.

Additional information about MENTOR's Elements series can be found at www.mentoring.org/elementswebinars.

Attached is a flier for a book you might be interested in --- prison, prison arts, the possibilities of university programs. The book comes out in September. You may also just be interested in Buzz Alexander and the Prison Creative Arts Project in Michigan... http://www.lsa.umich.edu/english/pcap/

Background Checks:
If you do background checks through me/SafetyNET and are waiting on clearances for any of your mentors, let me know. I have a file of mentors who are missing either an ID, SafetyNET Agreement, or Fingerprints. I need all three to send them in. Sorry if I haven't gotten to you recently to check in about missing items. Always feel free to ask, this helps me keep track of the pieces that trickle in.

Travel:
I'll be out of the office a lot in the next month:
-April 28-29 to visit Lisa in Dayton and Jim in Cincinnati
-May 4-6 four our Site Director meeting
-May 20-24 to visit sites in Hartford and New Haven

I'll try to stay on top of everything, but I know I'll be slower to respond to emails and phone calls.

Welcome

Across the country, we see the effects incarceration has on families, and especially on children.

This blog was created as a discussion forum for AmeriCorps Members working on mentoring programs for children of incarcerated parents across the country.

It is so valuable to hear about the similarities and differences, successes and challenges, and inspirations and frustrations we have encountered serving children, families, and mentors.

I hope this blog will connect us by providing a space for discussion, questions and answers, and inspiration as we work with a common mission in different programs in different places.
