Pre Mid-Year Resources!

I hope you had a wonderful week.
We got some snow, trained a mentor, matched a mentee with a mentor.

February Objectives
-Attend Mid Year
-Have your supervisors complete evaluations (your Site Director should be on top of this)

If you're still recruiting:
-Interview and train 3 mentors (remember - though I think it works well to do a small group mentor training, if scheduling is difficult, feel free to do a one-on-one mentor training. Check the Documents page for my outline)
-Collect fingerprints for 3 mentors
-Check in with any mentors, mentees, and caregivers who are matched

If you're not recruiting any more:
-Call all of your mentors, mentees, and caregivers

A Resource:
Michigan Mentor: http://www.michigan.gov/mentormichigan/0,1607,7-193--211411--,00.html
I pulled up the specific link about Men in Mentoring, since I know we all have a harder time getting men through the process to mentor our boys.

Of Interest:
Echoes of Incarceration video by children who have had incarcerated parents: http://web.mac.com/jeremyrobins/EIOF/home/home.html (i ordered the whole short video)

See you next week!

Welcome

Across the country, we see the effects incarceration has on families, and especially on children.

This blog was created as a discussion forum for AmeriCorps Members working on mentoring programs for children of incarcerated parents across the country.

It is so valuable to hear about the similarities and differences, successes and challenges, and inspirations and frustrations we have encountered serving children, families, and mentors.

I hope this blog will connect us by providing a space for discussion, questions and answers, and inspiration as we work with a common mission in different programs in different places.
